The second album from British experimental pop/rock group Broadcast, Haha Sound feels like a newly rediscovered artifact. The imagined, discarded “dreams of tomorrow” often illustrated in the saturated pulp sci-fi covers of the 1950s are examined here, as well as the music toolbox popularized by the pioneering psychedelic groups White Noise and the United States of America. At every turn, Trish Keenan’s playful vocal work shines through the thick mist of cut-up experimentation and stuttering synthesis crafted by James Cargill and Roj Stevens. – Wyatt
