David Axelrod – Seriously Deep
Another masterpiece from David Axelrod, Seriously Deep is one of the rarer records from the multi-talented musician, producer, composer, arranger’s heavily sampled catalog. As usual with Axelrod albums, drum and percussion breaks feature heavily across the entire album including “1000 Rads,” which was sampled by Mobb Deep, and “Ken Russell,” a tribute to the late great British film director. Crucially, Axelrod brings in jazz legend Leon Ndugu Chancler on drums to freshen up his sound along with Joe Sample, whose Arp Odyssey synthesizer and Fender Rhodes bring an electric and more futuristic edge to Axelrod’s psychedelic and cinematic music.
