Durutti Column – Fidelity
Originally released on CD-only in 1996 on the cult Brussels-based label Les Disques Du Crépuscule, Fidelity continues on the downtempo chill-out themes of the group’s final outing on Factory Records Obey The Time. Guitarist Vini Reilly is joined here by vocalist Eley Rudge on a few tracks with the album mostly featuring synthesizers, drum machines, and samples alongside Reilly’s signature understated, but immensely beautiful guitar playing. B1 “Future Perfect” is an especially dreamy track with a bubbling acid synthesizer line, far away piano chords, and Rudge singing about being present: “Tell me some stories / Don’t live in the future.” C2 “Grace” is another heart-stopper based around some sort of Southeast-Asian vocal sample that’ll immediately transport you to another world.
