The landmark debut album by Durutti Column, a Factory Records project consisting of genius guitarist Vini Reilly and legendary Manchester producer Martin Hannett, The Return Of The Durutti Column presented a more intellectual side of the young label most known for releasing Joy Division. Originally released on a sandpaper sleeve in the hopes that it “would destroy existing record collections,” the album features Reilly’s signature ambient jazz guitar sketches accented by Hannett’s modular synthesizer textures and electronic percussion. An essential listen, the album remains one of the most iconic in the storied Factory records catalog.
