An ECM classic from the great Brazilian composer, guitarist and pianist Egberto Gismonti, Sol do Meio Dia is Portuguese for “Noon Sun.” From Egberto Gismonti: “The music on this album is dedicated to Sapain and the Xingu Indians, whose teachings were so important to me during the time I spent with them in the Amazon jungle: The sound of the jungle, its color and mysteries; the sun, the moon, the rain and the winds; the river and the fish; the sky and the birds, but most of all the integration of musician, music, and instrument into an undivided whole.” As usual with ECM, this album features an impeccable supporting cast with percussionists Nana Vasconcelos and Collin Walcott, guitarist Ralph Towner, as well as Jan Garbarek on soprano saxophone.
