Tara Clerkin Trio – In Spring

Featured on Music from Memory’s excellent Uneven Paths: Deviant Pop From Europe 1980-1991, Härte 10’s Welcome To Germany is a delightful set of oddball tracks that can probably best be described as “leftfield experimental synth-pop.” That doesn’t explain much though so you’ll have to dive in to really get a taste of Frank Köllges, Mike Herting, and Valerie Kohlmetz’s sound. The components to the songs are very ’80s with drum machines, synthesizers, vocal samples, vocoder, and fretless bass, but the way they’re put together is far from ordinary. The artwork matches the aesthetic as well with Chinese opera performers on an album entitled Welcome to Germany…
