I:Cube – Tropiq
Released on Gilb’R’s long running and very excellent Versatile Records, Tropiq is a late ’90s classic. Nicolas Chaix aka I:Cube doesn’t often miss and these four tracks are a testament to his versatility and creativity as a producer. A1 “Le Dub” is a straightforward, but perfectly executed electronic dub track utilizing a reggae drum and sub bass loop as its foundation while continuing to add on dubbed out harmonies, melodies, and sounds from synthesizers and samplers. A2 “Adore” hits the chillout zone with sampled breaks and double bass. Title track “Tropiq” has an immediate bounce and has probably the goofiest samples of the bunch with classical guitar, a male vocal chorus, and some sort of reverse noises.
track of the bunch and hits on a faster tempo.
