Virtuoso German jazz drummer Klaus Weiss is probably mostly known for his supergroup project Niagara, which was an orchestra made entirely of drummers and percussionists, and the various library recordings he released on the Conroy and Golden Ring labels. In the late ’70s, Weiss would explore more experimental electronic sounds alongside his distinctive drumming (check 1978’s amazing Time Signals), eventually culminating in the release of Open Space Motion: Underscores, which pulled out his drum kit completely and instead shifted the focused to synthesizers. One of the very best library records, Open Space Motion: Underscores is mostly ambient, aside from the bits of understated percussion. The synthesizers set the tone with lush strings, analog leads, and pulsating synth bass building various cinematic atmospheres from driving sequences to relaxing to space and constellations.
