Kyoko Takenaka + Tomoki Sanders – Planet Q

Kyoko Takenaka + Tomoki Sanders have created an auditory environment that brings forth all the emotions of what it means to be uniquely yourself. Kyoko Takenaka: “Thats what Planet Q is: it’s a planet where we always belong and that can be accessed at anytime through music. It’s a place where queers are welcome and all of our identities belong and are no longer separated.” Through influences of Jazz, Japanese Folk, Ambient, and Butoh dance, the two have created a new sound that explores the meaning of the in-between. Album opener “My Tender, My Sweet, My Loving Home.” is dedicated to Tomoki’s father, the spiritual jazz legend Pharoah Sanders. Tomoki: “What I learned from him was to be honest to your creativity and be honest to every single input in your mind, soul, and spirit. Whenever you’re on stage, when you play any kind of music, just be truthful to the music, stick with it, and serve the music.”
