Lask – Sucht + Ordnung
Somewhat an anomaly in the vast ECM catalog, composer, saxophonist and synthesizer player Ulrich Lask presents a fusion of new wave and electronic jazz on Sucht + Ordnung (Addiction + Order), his second outing for Manfred Eicher’s label. B5 “Sucht” is a peculiarly amazing dancefloor friendly track that utilizes electronic drums and sequenced synthesizer parts alongside Lask’s saxophone and loose, improvised vocals from Maggie Nicols. “I want to see my friends dance and hear them sing” the singer croons in between scatting and bits of throat singing. A6 “Ordnung” utilizes the same sort of parts and ideas, but starts with a more experimental sound collage style that leads into that same joyous feeling.
