Sade – Promise

Included on the excellent Aloha Got Soul (Soul, AOR & Disco in Hawai’i 1979-1985) compilation, Lemuria was a jazz-funk and soul group formed by Kirk Thompson, an influential figure on the islands and a member of the legendary Hawaiian band Kalapana. Thompson’s idea was to put together a “supergroup” of sorts comprised of the most talented musicians on the island who had yet to make it on a national level. The result was an 18 member group including multiple vocalists, full brass band, a monster guitar shredder, and a self-titled debut that’s “probably the best Hawaiian R&B album ever.”
