MFSB – Mysteries of the World

A throwback to the golden era analog production of ’70s progressive pop/rock (think Todd Rundgren, Brian Wilson / Beach Boys, Paul McCartney), The Lost Album began as a set of demos for the follow-up to Lewis Taylor’s highly-acclaimed “blue-eyed soul” self-titled debut album. The story goes that the demos were rejected by Island Records, forcing Taylor to fulfill his contract with another album of commercially-leaning soul music. Years later, Taylor would complete the “lost” demos with collaborator Sabina Smyth and self-release it on his own label. “New Morning” is a gorgeous sun-soaked psychedelic rock song featuring multi-layered vocal harmonies, Indian percussion, glistening acoustic guitar, and extended prog-like arrangements. “Please Help Me If You Can” is another favorite showcasing Taylor’s undeniably infectious vocals with a sneaky little key change injected near the end of the song. Taylor: “Now you’re talking. That’s my favourite LT album. Unlike all of the others, there isn’t anything about it that embarrasses me.”
