Merope – Naktės

We’re big fans of Merope’s 2021 album Salos on Stroom so naturally we checked out the rest of the Lithuanian chamber group’s releases. Naktės are songs “inspired by the atmosphere of the night” and once again features the group’s signature interpretations of Lithuanian folk songs. Much like Salos, the group’s core sound is produced by Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė (voice and Lithuanian zither), Bert Cools (guitars, synths, electronics), and Jean-Christophe Bonnafous (Hindustani flute) with some accompaniment by the Vilnius Chamber Choir. There’s a deeper intimacy to Naktės, though, as if the compositions were performed in a small room versus a church or orchestral hall.
