MFSB, which stands for Mother Father Sister Brother, was the studio band for Philadelphia International Records. The collective of over 30 musicians worked closely with production duo Gamble and Huff, producer/arranger Thom Bell, and backed Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, The O’Jays, The Stylistics, the Spinners, Wilson Pickett, and Billy Paul. Their final album Mysteries of the World was produced by the great synth pioneer Dexter Wansel. On the title track, Wansel recalls, “This particular song I composed in an effort to blend a funky groove, along with synthesis, and orchestral sounds. On this particular track there are 3 synthesizers: Oberheim 4 voice, Polymoog, and of course Arp 2600v. And as I remember, I recorded the track with the rhythm section, string, harp and flute players first. Then I added synthesis.”
