Claude Rodap – Fregate Orchestra – Syn-Ka
A truly unique private press record from Martinique, Claude Rodap’s Syn-Ka sounds like “Jean Michel Jarre getting fruity on sabbatical in the Caribbean.” Filled with various cosmic synthesizers (Roland, Casio, Arp, Avatar, Odyssey), the album crosses many genres including reggae, gwo ka, jazz fusion, disco, and more. From Rodap himself: “With the emergence of the MIDI standard during the ’80s, I created my own musical style which didn’t change since, the SYNKA: a mix between Synthesizer sounds and West Indian drums (Gwo Ka, Bel-air)… which you can feel all the jazz fusion influences combined with some west indian flavoured surges!”
