Produced by On-U Sound’s Adrian Sherwood, Ministry’s sophomore album Twitch moves away from the synth-pop sound of the group’s debut and into the heavy, industrial sound they would become known for. Harsh, metallic drums, processed vocals, cryptic spoken word, found samples, and sound collage feature prominently across the album, and while the overall sound is dark, there’s clearly quite a bit of beauty here as well within these metallic scraps. Just listen to A4 “The Angel” which starts off with Alain Jourgensen’s menacing spoken word and a distorted synth arpeggio line that later clears into a gorgeous melody and a female voice chanting “There’s always an angel who cares.”
