Mood Hut – Disco Mantras Vol. 1

Dedicated to “freak friends across the world playing for peace in an era of fear and ignorance,” Disco Mantras Vol. 1 was the first LP to appear from the Vancouver-based Mood Hut crew back in 2016. A collective effort, the album’s seven hazy, dub-infused tracks feature imaginary artist names like Lion Heart, Dorjan Attamofd, Cafe DM, and Cee Zee Du (though it’s not hard to guess who might be involved). Choice samples from King Sunny Adé, Paul Horn, Pharoah Sanders, and other legends fuel the production here with Akai MPC, Roland Space Echo, and analog synthesizers providing the warm, smokey psychedelia the Mood Hut crew has become known around the world for. B3 “Paul’s Blues” is an especially beautiful reworking of Paul Horn’s “Blue.”
