Polygonia, Popp – Candid

Fazer drummer Simon Popp links up with Munich-based producer Polygonia for a set of experimental electronic / futuristic third stream jazz compositions steeped in improvisation and fluid abstraction. Comprised of live material recorded at Munich’s ZIRKA in late 2022, the album centers around the conversation between Popp’s drumset and Polygonia’s organic synthesizer soundscapes with the artists seeming to explore their own rhythmic language that naturally blossoms and blooms as each track develops. It’s not just about the rhythmic or percussive though – A2 “Honsu” includes some gorgeous wordless jazz vocals that both slither and soar through the dense thicket of drums and bubbling electronics. A5 “Onyx” brings sub bass into the mix for a club-ready track that lands somewhere between techno, jazz, and chillout room downtempo.
