One of our favorite releases on the great Belgian archival label Stroom (run by Ziggy Devriendt aka Nosedrip), Spring Break is a collection of studio compositions by Pablo’s Eye, an international collective of experimental musicians led by Brussels producer and founding member Axel Libeert. Not really a band but more like “a solid manifestation of an abstract notion,” Pablo’s Eye weaves together dreamy moods and atmospheres through field recordings, samples, drum machines, synthesizers, and live instrumentation including violins, voice, trumpet, percussion, and guitar. There’s clearly a very intentional cinematic and visual quality behind the work here, and it’s no surprise that many of these tracks were originally commissioned for design, architecture, and as “an invisible soundtrack to an imagined film.”
