Ashra – Blackouts

An essential for any Arthur Russell fan, Another Thought is the enigmatic artist’s first posthumous release after passing from AIDS in 1992. Compiled by producer Don Christensen from the thousands of tapes Russell left behind from 1982-1990, the songs vary in stages of completion and showcase Russell’s raw genius in its most intimate forms. The compilation ranges in styles from the close mic’d cello and vocal chamber music of “Home Away from Home,” to experimental pop “This is How We Walk on the Moon,” and even left-field dance music “In the Light of a Miracle”. Many releases have been compiled since Russell passed, but this one is perhaps the most cohesive, well sequenced, and warmest.
