Pascal Comelade – Bel Canto
French-catalan composer Pascal Comelade presents 18 minimal compositions featuring his signature “Bel Canto” sound, which is characterized by mixing cheap toy instruments (plastic guitars and accordions, toy pianos, melodicas, triangle, ukelele) with “grander” instruments (piano, violin, Spanish guitar). The compositions are mostly brief, almost like miniatures, though the melodies and ideas manage to stick with you and get better with each listen. Frequent collaborator and kindred spirit Robert Wyatt contributes one track on the album. Recommended for fans of minimal, avant-garde, French chanson, Moondog, and Aqsak Maboul.
