POiSON GiRL FRiEND – Melting Moment
Originally released on CD-only in 1992, Melting Moment is the masterpiece second album from Noriko Sekiguchi aka POiSON GiRL FRiEND. Sharing more than one similarity with Dream Dolphin’s Noriko, POiSON GiRL FRiEND also had an unusual upbringing that would influence her sound. She spent her childhood in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, studied French, and grew up listening to bossa nova, chanson, and canzone. Later, a trip to London would inspire her to create the proto-techno pop sounds featured on this album. Downtempo beats, guitar, acoustic bass, violins, and tripped-out synthesizers all come together with POiSON GiRL FRiEND’s uniquely light and raspy voice. A perfect, melting dream, the album “sounds like the love child of shoegaze and techno-pop.” For a deep dive on the album, we highly recommend reading Fond Sound’s writeup on the album here.
