Oakland’s rising star Spaceghost presents a collection of tropical boogie meets mellow house on Danish label Tartlet Records. Shades of Italian deep house meets classic ’90s deep house a la Larry Heard, Glenn Underground, Peacefrog Records, etc. with lush analog and digital synth soundscapes, crisp drum programming, and bouncy basslines. As usual, Spaceghost’s knack for infectious melodies fill the album with a timeless sort of quality with tracks sounding equally perfect for those ecstasy-filled dancefloor moments and post-night hangouts. From Spaceghost: “I became obsessed with the feeling I got from today’s Italian sound. Other styles like Burrell Brothers’ underground house or Larry Heard’s smooth pads mixed in with bubblegum pop and African boogie while making the record. Aquarium Nightclub is relatable but still different.”
