When Cincinnati-based soul group The 24-Carat Black released their debut in 1973, the album struggled to find its place in the market and didn’t achieve commercial success. However, the album later gained a cult following over the years, becoming highly sought-after amongst collectors and sample-based music producers. Ghetto: Misfortune’s Wealth stands as a testament to the band’s profound artistic vision, pushing the boundaries of soul and funk while offering a deep and introspective exploration of the black experience during the 1970’s. Led by the visionary songwriter and producer Dale O. Warren, 24-Carat Black created a timeless blend of soulful melodies and lush arrangements. Following the group’s disbandment, eight former members came together to form a new musical collective known as Shotgun. This newly-formed group embarked on a prolific journey, releasing a total of six albums between 1976 and 1982 and touring with Rick James. – Ally
