Pete Jolly – Seasons

“There is joy laced with confidence in his music, and sadness, or pathos, that is as much connected to the Blues as it to the huge yearning of that sound in Eastern music.” A disciple of Ornette Coleman, Don Cherry continued the “free jazz” legacy of his mentor by infusing Western improvisation with music from Europe, Africa and the Far East. Indian classical, traditional African, Indonesian gamelan, Arabic folk, minimalism, fusion, and more can be heard in Cherry’s pioneering works of organic “world music.” Brown Rice is one of Cherry’s most beloved albums and features greats Bengt Berger, Charlie Haden, Billy Higgins, and his wife / creative partner, Moki Cherry.
