Javier Bergia – Eclipse

A perfect entry point into the immensely deep world of ethnographic music, Musique Du Burundi is one of the all-time great field recordings from the legendary French imprint Ocora. Recorded in 1967, the album features the astonishing vocal techniques, whispering songs, and percussive music of the Burundi people. A testament to the beauty and uniqueness of these sounds, the music here has influenced generations of musicians including “organic music” master Don Cherry, who incorporated the Burundi “whispering song” into his repertoire, and has been sampled by numerous artists over the years from Joni Mitchell on The Hissing of Summer Lawns to Brian Eno and David Byrne on their influential My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts.
