Prior to releasing her excellent debut Cult Survivor, Sofie Fatouretchi, one of the original crew of Boiler Room, put together a 24-track compilation of the best in underground hip-hop and soul from Los Angeles, New York, the Bay Area, Detroit, Richmond, and beyond. Released on Stones Throw in 2016, the comp has a warm, mixtape feel with hazy Rhodes samples, dusty MPC beats, and modern classic sounding vocals from label mainstays mndsn, Kutmah, and Jonwayne alongside newer signings like Stimulator Jones as well as a few tracks from Sofie herself. Play it through all the way, preferably while driving!
