Jack J – Opening the Door

View Album Artwork
The self-titled debut album by the lovely British contralto Julia Fordham is an underrated sophisti-pop classic featuring introspective songwriting and smooth digital production. Recommended for fans of the Blue Nile and Sade, the album flows through moments of being a bit too polished on the pop spectrum, but the highlight “Happy Ever After” is a timeless tune that gets everything just right. Featuring a restrained percussion groove and DX7 bell harmonies, the track leaves it all for Fordham’s one-of-a-kind voice to shine gliding through incredibly sweet lows and soaring into higher registers.
