Barrington Levy – Here I Come
Here I Come is a dancehall classic by “Mr. Cool and Lovin'” himself, Barrington Levy. Recorded at the legendary Channel One Studios, the album embraces the sound of the times, incorporating digital reggae production with drum machines and pulsing synth bass, while also taking dancehall into some interesting musical directions. There’s a few missteps, but it’s all salvaged by the beautiful B4 The Vibes is Right, a dancehall slow jam anthem that is moody and dramatic, with a deeply moving rhythm despite the absence of drums. Rolling piano, lounge sax, and tasteful blues guitar take listeners on an emotional journey that’s as cinematic as it is groovy while Levy delivers one of his all time great vocal performances with dynamic, luxe melodies that swing and hook. His signature cascading “no’s” provide the drama here while the lyrics define the essence of the dancehall… “The vibes is right. We don’t want no fuss, no fight, noo!”
