Legendary jazz pianist, lyricist, producer, and author Ben Sidran is a name more should know. The co-writer of Steve Miller’s “Space Cowboy” and host of National Public Radio’s award-winning jazz series “Jazz Alive,” Sidran has recorded more than thirty solo albums and produced for noted artists such as Van Morrison, Diana Ross, Michael Franks, Rickie Lee Jones, Mose Allison and Steve Miller. His third solo album Puttin’ In Time On Planet Earth is his most tripped-out effort and features the great Tony Williams, “funky drummer” Clyde Stubblefield, and Phil Upchurch on bass. “Peering through a ruined wall on the dusty island of Ibiza, ruminating on the poet Tichbourne’s ‘On the Eve of His Execution’ (“and now I live and now my life is done”) I was a young man with a long road ahead of me, with a lot of the elements in place and still many more to come.”
