Bill Evans & Jim Hall – Undercurrent
What makes this record so special is the sublime interplay between Bill Evans piano playing and Jim Hall’s guitar work. These two masters of their craft found a way to share the lead on this record and the result is one of the most seminal jazz duets ever recorded. While the music itself is rather subtle, there’s an “Undercurrent” of quiet power that comes from the back and forth between these two jazz giants. Without a traditional rhythm section, Evans and Hall are able to float and exchange ideas freely, creating their own sense of rhythm and swing. Perfect winter listening and a timeless must-have for any jazz enthusiast.
