Captain Beefheart – Bluejeans & Moonbeams
Bluejeans & Moonbeams is the ninth studio album by the enigmatic singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and visual artist Don Van Vliet, aka Captain Beefheart, and his Magic Band, recorded in Hollywood with producer Andy DiMartino. It is considered Beefheart’s most commercial sounding work and although the album failed to reach the charts upon release, it has since become a cult classic with artists like Kate Bush and Jack White considering it a favorite. “Observatory Crest” is the obvious cut here – a simple, gorgeous song about looking down upon the city of Los Angeles at night from Griffith Observatory… played twice by Lovefingers at our deep listening sessions last summer.
