Drummer/Keyboardist Jack DeJohnette delivers his trippiest solo outing to date on cult classic Sorcery with an all-star cast including Headhunters / Mwandishi legend Bennie Maupin, Bitches Brew bass player Dave Holland, and ECM guitar hero John Abercrombie. Across six tracks, DeJohnette and company flow and jam through free-form jazz, fusion, and progressive rock with the six part “Reverend King Suite,” avant-garde stylings with layered voices on “The Right Time,” and something called a Metaphone 1 throughout. Closing track “Epilog” contains a classic drum break used by J Dilla, The Alchemist, and Gaslamp Killer.
