White Noise – An Electric Storm

One of Leon Russell’s first projects as a producer, Daughters of Albion’s lone album is a psych-pop cult classic featuring infectious pop songwriting, fantastically imaginative studio tricks, and peculiar arrangement and instrumental turns at every corner. The group was the brainchild of arranger/producer Russell, vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Greg Dempsey, vocalist Kathy Yesse (later Dalton) and songwriter Dave “Luff” Linden. Released on Fontana in 1968, Daughters of Albion was recorded in Hollywood but interestingly features Russell’s Oklahoma crew of musicians, rather than the L.A. Wrecking Crew, giving the album a unique blend of Los Angeles psych-pop songwriting with the “Tulsa Sound.”
