Sussan Deihim / Richard Horowitz – Desert Equations: Azax Attra
Featured in the “Experimental” section of Chee Shimizu’s Obscure Sound disc guide, Desert Equations: Azax Attra was released in 1986 on legendary Belgium label Crammed Disc’s “Made to Measure” composer series. Iranian vocalist Sussan Deyhim meets the avant-garde electronic composer Richard Horowitz here for a unique blend of traditional Persian music, electronic jazz, tough percussion, synthesizers, and drum machines. The music is quite out there and can maybe best be described as extreme desert music… “Tehran-born singer Deyhim’s microtonal wailing probably woke you up during The Last Temptation Of Christ… Her stunning voice combines eerily with Horowitz’s ethnocomputerology to create intense techno-dance moods and sci-fi prayer calls” (Voice, USA, 1987)
