Dove + Georgia – Air From Air

Japanese vocalist/producer Dove meets experimental electronic duo Georgia (Justin Tripp + Brian Closed) on this last album of 2023 released just before Christmas on the great EM Records. A collection of audio poems, Air on Air features Dove’s voice “modified and expanded, cradled and celebrated, syllable by syllable and phrase by phrase… transforming breath and air through the ether of circuitry, dismantling meaning, yet paradoxically revealing new meaning, both verbal and musical.” As expected with Georgia productions, the beats are unconventional and difficult to pinpoint stylistically but still groove heavily with a healthy amount of sub frequencies. Folk melodies and traditional instruments also play a part here, but, of course, twisted through Georgia’s “ether of circuity” giving the album a sort of futuristic sci-folktale quality.
