We first came across this album on Japanese record collector Dubby’s Ondas shop. Palle Mikkelborgs Journey To… is a Danish jazz fusion gem featuring musicians who would later collaborate with Miles Davis on his concept album Aura. Electric trumpet specialist Palle Mikkelborg seems to lead the charge here and shines alongside bassist Bo Stief and percussionists Lennart Gruvstedt and Ethan Weisgard. The standout track A4 Terry Perry is gorgeous fourth world, ambient jazz that sounds surprisingly fresh for an 80’s track. Minimal, Mkwaju Ensemble-esque percussion meets soaring flugelhorn and ominous keyboards for a tune that sits somewhere between floating and pensive.
