Experimental Audio Research – The Köner Experiment
Experimental Audio Research (E.A.R.) was an experimental music collective formed by Spacemen 3’s Pete Kember aka Sonic Boom. A cult classic that was named “one of the greatest techno albums you’ve never heard” by Fact Magazine, The Köner Experiment features an all-star cast of sonic innovators of space rock, shoegaze, and dub including members of Spacemen 3 alongside My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields, duo Porter Ricks, percussionist Eddie Prévost, and Kevin Martin aka The Bug. As the title suggests, the music here is sonically closest to the work of Thomas Köner, who mixed and produced Kember and company’s raw recordings into the haunting subaquatic dubwise techno that he’s known for on the Basic Channel sub-label Chain Reaction. Highly recommended for fans of Autechre, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, etc.
