Frank Harris & Maria Marquez – Echoes
Echoes is a compilation of ethno-wave songs from multi-instrumentalist Frank Harris and Venezuelan singer Maria Marquez. Dating back to 1985, this collection combines both headliners’ strong suits with Harris’ pedigree in electronic composition and his obsession with programming the Synclavier, an early digital synthesizer, meeting Marquez’s Venezuelan roots, folklore and pop sensibilities to form some kind of future-primitive avant-pop. It’s a wild combo, but an incredible listen. The B side reflects the more palatable pop stylings with the Sade-esque B5 Down By the Rio, the beautiful and tribal freakout rendition of the muppets classic B4 Bein’ Green, and the smooth balearic perfection of B1 Loveroom. Highly recommended for fans of MFM’s Outro Tempo series, or América Invertida!
