Gang of Four – Entertainment
A seminal post punk classic, Gang of Four’s debut Entertainment is a perfectly stripped down mix of punk, funk, and dub with highly political lyrics taking aim at “great men,” the media, capitalist economic systems, and right-wing ideology. Also described as dance punk or art punk, the group’s music featured an aggressive and jerky style that featured sparse instrumentation, breakdowns, and funk/dub inspired grooves that can be described as “art meets the devil via James Brown.” Their sound would go on to influence countless bands including R.E.M., The Minutemen, LCD Soundsystem, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more…
