George Duke – The Aura Will Prevail
An underrated album from George Duke’s vast catalog, The Aura Will Prevail was released during a time when Duke was experimenting with incorporating R&B vocals into his music. The album underperformed likely for this reason as most fans were more accustomed to Duke’s usual instrumental jazz fusion style. We personally love Duke’s slightly unconventional, sometimes spoken, other times falsetto vocals style here and others seem to agree… The Aura Will Prevail has in later years become a cult classic for record diggers and producers. A2 “For Love (I Come Your Friend)” would be sampled by MF Doom on his track “I Hear Voices (Part One)” and covered by Thundercat on his debut album The Golden Age Of Apocalypse.
