Undoubtedly the best of the three H.P. Lovecraft albums released in the late 60s / early 70s, H.P. Lovecraft II is a cosmic, West Coast mushroom trip that blends elements of folk and psych rock in a tight, slightly haunted package. The group is led by the gorgeous harmonies of folk singer George Edwards and the classically trained Dave Michaels, who also contributes organ, piano, harpsichord, clarinet and recorder. B2 Mobius Trip is the big winner here (the rest of the album is great too) – a painfully short, spaced out tune that features Edwards and Michaels on doubled lead vocals with some magnificent delay that creates the perfect trip zone. “Walking down the street I feel like crashing. Everybody is groovy all their eyes are flashing. Do you think that this could be the time? In the world behind the pantomime where everybody’s really feeling fine. A thought like that could really blow my mind.”
