Spring – S.T.

Plastic Ono Band, Harry Nilsson, Elton John, and a “lost weekend” in Los Angeles away from Yoko and family life make for a winning combination on John Lennon’s fifth studio album Walls and Bridges. Lennon was in a creative slump in the mid-’70s and the story goes that Elton John bet Lennon that “Whatever Gets You Thru The Night” would reach the top of the charts. The track would become Lennon’s first solo number 1 hit. Our pick here though is A5 “Bless You,” a smooth soulful love song written for Lennon’s estranged wife Yoko Ono. “In a way, it’s about Yoko and I, and in a way it’s about a lot of couples or all of us who go through that, whatever it’s called, love experience.”
