Holy Tongue – S.T.

Holy Tongue is a collaboration between Italo-British drummer-composer and multi-instrumentalist Valentina Magaletti and South London producer Allen Wootton FKA Deadboy. The duo’s first single on Amidah Records pays homage to the psychedelic sounds of dub-dance originators On-U-Sound, Muslimgauze, and post-punk bands such as Liquid Liquid and 23 Skidoo with a heavily tripped-out and freeform take on dub. Valentina Magaletti’s creative take on percussion gives the tracks an off-kilter almost voodoo kind of feel while Wootton’s bass, siren and spring reverb mastery fill out the cavernous space. Magaletti’s experience with the motorik beat somehow comes through in her steppers/rockers style drumming as the tracks push with that same feeling of constant forward momentum. Heavily recommended for fans of Bill Laswell & Style Scott, African Head Charge, and This Heat.
