Compiled by Melody As Truth’s Jonny Nash, Melodies In The Sand is a collection of modern classical works that mix European folk traditions with Cocteau Twins dream pop and Harold Budd’s suspended ambient. The Czech husband and wife duo’s work spans decades, beginning in the mid 80’s as part of experimental European classical ensemble Capella Antiqua e Moderna and into recent years with their recordings for Viola De Gamba (a baroque instrument in the violin family). Irena’s vocals are a highlight wherever they appear on the album; her airy, almost whispered chanting is completely entrancing and sure to send any listener into a deep meditative state.
