Johnny Lamas – Danza Cosmica
Featured in Sanshiro’s Post-House Music Disc Guide “a guidebook of dance music from around the world… based on the concept of being able to mix”, Johnny Lamas’ Danza Cosmica is a private press rarity combining jazz-funk, ambient and electronic sounds with the rhythms of Venezuelan traditional music. While the instrumentation is nothing out of the ordinary (drum machines, digital percussion, Yamaha DX-7), the execution and sound is totally unique with Lamas’ playing subtly referencing elements of cosmic synth music, house, and even R&B. A3 “Piña Colada” is especially interesting and sounds almost like a Ron Trent tune with its euphoric keyboard strings and hard-hitting drum machine groove.
