The second of only two records released by the duo compromised of bassist Jorge Degas and percussionist Marcelo Salazar, Muxima finds the pair of musicians taking a much more stripped back and intimate approach to recording from the full studio band backed songs of their first release. The mastery of Degas and Salazar on their respective instruments is on full display here creating a rich and dynamic world of sound. The compositions range from deep and mellow to traditional samba, at times going into full on improvised jam sessions showing off of their incredible speed and dexterity. Along with the eye catching interpretation of Matisse’s “The Dance” painting for the record sleeve, the duo also contribute original takes of their own by covering Brazilian classics “Triste” by Antonio Carlos Jobim and “Ponta De Areia” by Milton Nascimiento.
