One of the early pioneers of boogie and R&B, Kashif (born Michael Jones) cut his teeth with 70’s funk group B.T. Express and later made a name for himself producing hits for Evelyn “Champagne” King (he produced “Love Comes Down”), Howard Johnson, Melba Moore, George Benson, and Whitney Houston. His sound is instantly recognizable – bouncy basslines, spacious synth instrumentation, and proto-electronic drum machine grooves that would later influence electro and house. His self-titled solo debut on Arista is a boogie cult classic that continues to be played in clubs today.
