Nancy & Lee – S.T.

Destined to be the next great country star, Keith Whitley tragically passed away from ethanol poisoning on May 9th, 1989 after a slew of major accolades: “Don’t Close Your Eyes” was ranked as Billboard’s number-one country song of 1988 and “I’m No Stranger to the Rain” earned Whitley a Country Music Association award and a Grammy nomination for Best Male Country Vocal. 1985’s L.A. To Miami remains a classic album from Whitley’s short-but-sweet catalog featuring the iconic opener “Miami, My Amy”, which sounds like something you might hear on Grand Theft Auto’s country music station and has actually recently been trending on TikTok. “Nobody In His Right Mind Would’ve Left Her” is also great and would later be recorded by the great George Strait. On the day Keith Whitley died, Waylon Jennings said: “That Was The Greatest Country Singer Ever.”
