Michael Shrieve, Steve Roach – The Leaving Time
Ambient pioneer Steve Roach teams up with Santana percussion virtuoso Michael Shrieve and ECM Records’ David Torn on this classic ’80s ambient / new age album. Quite a few steps removed from Roach’s Quiet Music series, The Leaving Time is not your typical home listening ambient record with Shrieve’s electronic percussion grooves pushing the compositions forward and Torn’s guitar providing the perfect ethereal accompaniment and embellishment for Roach’s lush, atmospheric synth textures. While the whole album plays through great, be sure to check out A4 “Theme From The Far Away” and B2 “Big Sky” which contain the more memorable melodies and soundscapes.
